Abstract: The use of metaphors in digital society has long since become foundational and substantive. In some cases, going beyond mere metaphors, legal and institutional models derived from the past are apparently adopted: this is the case of Greek direct democracy, often used to imagine the institutions of the digital and the overcoming of representative institutions. But in other cases, as in that of the Roman legal experience, the emergence of tools such as the legal person can also be considered an epistemological tool for understanding current digital-related dynamics. The essay analyzes similarities, divergences, suggestions, and potential dangers arising from this connection between the digital society and antiquity.
